Joanne Foster-Komendat
I describe myself as a 'creative', on a never ending journey of exploring. I have no formal training and am mostly self taught, but have been blessed along the way to know some amazing women who were willing to share their knowledge and expertise.
My journey began at my Mother's side with a sewing machine, learning how to make my own clothes and then my children's clothes. Colour, shapes and patterns have always fascinated me, which lead me to take up quilting in the late 90's. Over the past 50 years I have played in many mediums including sewing, quilting, embroidery, knitting, crochet, needle felting, fibre art and stitch meditation. I was introduced to the art of Batik ( painting dye on fabric using wax resist) just before the start of the Covid pandemic. During long isolation and shutdowns I explored sketching, drawing and watercolour and the results were both satisfying and surprising. I am now focusing my artist expression on watercolour and batik. Something to be said about the old adage 'It is never too late to start something new'.
