Karen Wynne Mackay
Karen Wynne Mackay's art is abstract, gestural, intuitive art and is referred to as contemporary. Her greatest inspiration is found in nature - shapes, lines, colours, as well as lakes, oceans and rivers - majestic waters. Other important inspirations and muses are: jazz, blues, folk and rock music, novels, poetry, short stories, movies, hiking, kayaking and swimming.
Karen's art for this year has been based largely and influenced by birth/death - lost/found - joy/sadness as well as some fear and great relief over this years transitions. Karen has been affected by the loss of collaboration with fellow artists, career in hiatus, no shows and as with all things that go wrong in life the upside is that she has been blessed with a beautiful new granddaughter. To some this may seem like an everyday event, in this case it was not that simple. Karen's art has a story for you to discover.
Karen works in Acrylic, Encaustic paints as well as is a Professional Calligrapher for the Governor General of Canada. Her influence of lettering and design has added to the mark making and line work that is unique to her style. She teaches art mark making and calligraphy. She has studied from many Professional Art and Calligraphic Instructors over her 25+ year Art Career. These courses have taken her to the United States as well as east and west of her hometown Ottawa, ON.
She is an active Member of the West Carleton Arts Society as Past President and the Lead Co-ordinator for the West Carleton Arts Society Plant / Bath Community Centre wall space. Karen is also an active member of the Calligraphy Society of Ottawa, Art East Arts Society as well as the Nepean Fine Arts Club. Karen has spent many years volunteering because she believes that giving back is of much importance in the creative life.
